El Sewedy Electric for Transmission and Distribution of Power, a subsidiary of El Sewedy Electric, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) Société Nationale D’électricité (SNEL) have signed a $38.6m contract to construct a transformer station in DRC.
In a statement sent to the Egyptian Exchange (EGX), El Sewedy added that the contract has been undertaken with SNEL, the DRC’s national electricity company, to construct the transformer station in Kasumbalesa, in Haut-Katanga province.
The statement noted that the project will create a more efficient management of energy exchanges between the southern African power grid and the DRC’s grid. It also looks to improve the measurement of this energy exchange between the DR Congo and it’s southern neighbour, Zambia. The project is set to raise the rate of socio-economic development in Kasumbalesa and the surrounding areas.
El Sewedy Electric’s scope of work includes the design, supply and installation of the entire project, as well as work on a turnkey system. This will occur provided that the project works are completed within 18 months from the date of the project’s commencement.
The Egyptian company provides integrated energy solutions in Africa and the Middle East, and is one of the largest manufacturers of cables and electricity meters in the world.
