Zurab Pololikashvili, Secretary-General of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), has praised the seriousness of precautionary measures and safety controls taken by the Egyptian government to resume tourism in the country.
Pololikashvili also praised the commitment of hotels nationwide in properly implementing these measures.
The UNWTO Secretary-General is currently in Egypt for a visit, which began on Saturday at the official invitation of Egypt’s Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Khaled El-Anani.
The visit is the first outside Europe by Pololikashvili, since the emergence of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) crisis and the resumption of travel and aviation in Spain, where the UNWTO is headquartered.
On Sunday before starting his tour in Hurghada, Pololikashvili was keen to inspect and follow up on the implementation of precautionary measures and health and safety controls approved in the hotel in which he resides.
El-Anani and Pololikashvili inspected the preventive measures in place that the hotel, including the procedures upon entering the hotel, for disinfecting luggage, measuring guests’ temperatures, hand disinfection, the reception area, and housing procedures. The two sides also inspected the restaurants area, kitchens, pergolas, swimming pools, internal corridors, the outside walkway, and the beach area.
The hotel director also gave a detailed explanation of all the preventive measures taken, where he emphasised that the disinfection and sterilisation procedures are carried out continuously. These fall in accordance with the standards approved by the World Health Organization (WHO) and Egypt’s Ministry of Health, and using materials approved by the latter.
The two sides are scheduled to hold joint meetings with investors in the tourism sector, in addition to visiting several museums and archaeological and tourist sites in Egypt.
