A Taliban cache and a courthouse were destroyed by airstrikes in North Afghanistan Sari Pul province, the military said on Sunday.
“Following a heavy bombing by the Afghan airforce, a depot of Taliban militants packed with explosives, ammunition and arms were destroyed in the Suzma Qala district’s Kata Qala area of Sari Pul on Saturday night,” the army’s Shaheen Corps 209 said in a statement.
The cache stored six AK-47 rifles, one rocket propelled grenade (RPG) launcher, 2,000 bullets, more than 70 kg explosive materials and several land mines, according to the statement.
A courthouse of the outfit was located in the area and destroyed by a separate sortie, the statement added.
No details are given on the possible casualties resulting from the operation.
The militant group has not commented on the incident so far.
On Saturday, Fighting planes struck a Taliban gathering inside their base in Qargan area of Afghanistan northern Faryab province on Friday, destroying the base and killing 12 militants on the spot, army spokesman in the northern region Mohammad Hanif Rezai said.
Acting on a tip-off, the fighting aircraft stormed the Taliban gathering inside their base on Friday afternoon smashing the base and besides killing 12 insurgents also foiled their designs to attack security checkpoints.
