CIT Ministry, Alexandria University cooperate on applied research projects using technology

The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology’s Center for Applied Innovation has signed a cooperation agreement with Alexandria University’s Smart Infrastructure Research Center to implement applied research projects.

The projects are aimed at using the latest communication and information technologies (CIT) to develop innovative solutions to solve practical issues in vital areas such as health and agriculture.

Under the agreement, technical cooperation will take place a team from the Center for Applied Innovation, and a team of Alexandria University faculty members and specialists. Each team will implement the agreed upon work items that have been fully coordinated, and facilitates the exchange of information and experiences.

Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr Talaat said that the agreement’s signing on Tuesday is a step forward in the cooperation between his ministry and Alexandria University.

He added that it reflects the ministry’s interest in research cooperation with academic and research institutions to exchange knowledge and experiences. At the same time, it would also create digital projects that serve development and contribute to building a digital Egypt.

Talaat explained that this agreement represents the first work to be undertaken by the Applied Innovation Center that will have practical results with a positive impact on the health and lives of citizens.

For his part, Alexandria University President Essam El-Kurdi said that the agreement focuses on the participation between the two sides in developing the skills of new generations of specialists in modern technical fields. It comes with a focus on these skills and outputs resulting from applied research projects, and includes modern technological products that contribute to the upgrading of the national economy.

The Center for Applied Innovation was established by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology to develop creativity and innovation in applying modern communications and information technologies.

This includes artificial intelligence (AI), high-performance computing, blockchain, Internet of Things (IoT), big data analysis, robotics, and 5G networks, amongst other areas. The vision of the Alexandria University’s Smart Infrastructure Research Center is to become a leading research institution in the field of supporting research excellence and continuous development. At the same time, it looks to raise the level of efficiency and creativity in the fields of smart infrastructure at the local and global level, reaching the ranks of the leading centres globally.
