Egypt’s Minister of Trade and Industry Nevine Gamea announced that exports of alcohol and its derivatives, surgical masks, and prevention requirements against the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) are now permitted.
Gamea cancelled Ministerial Resolution No 186 of 2020 which put a stop to the export of alcohol and its derivatives, and Resolution No 187 of2020 which barred the export of surgical masks and infection prevention kits.
She said that her ministry’s directive to allow the export of these products came after full coordination with the Unified Medical Procurement Authority (UMPA), as sufficient stock is available to meet the local market needs for these products.
The minister confirmed that the Egyptian government is keen to provide all medical supplies to combat the pandemic, whilst preserving export markets for Egyptian products.
Gamea added that the state has not hesitated to issue decisions that promote the health and safety of citizens. This comes in addition to promoting economic growth rates in Egypt, and increasing the country’s exports.
She said that, under this decision, companies that produce medical supplies, including alcohol of all kinds and its derivatives, masks, protective suits, latex gloves, surgical masks, N95 masks, masks, and protective glasses can start exporting.
