Egypt’s Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly has emphasised the need to ensure precautionary measures against the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) are enforced, particularly in work places and construction project areas.
Madbouly’s remarks came during a visit to Kafr El-Sheikh Governorate, on Tuesday, accompanied by a high-level ministerial delegation. Accompanying the Prime Minister were: Minister of Local Development Mahmoud Shaarawy; Minister of Health and Population Hala Zayed; Minister of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities Assem Al-Jazzar; Minister of Transportation Kamel El-Wazir; Minister Agriculture and Land Reclamation ElSayed ElKosayer; and Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Khaled Abdel Ghaffar.
The Prime Minister visited Kafr El-Sheikh University’s Faculty of Artificial Intelligence, the first university faculty to introduce robotic devices to help students design and implement various programmes.
The centre includes a robotic device featuring facial recognition technology in addition to current location mapping facilities.
Madbouly also visited the construction site for the Kafr El-Sheikh University Emergency Hospital, which Abdel Ghaffar said is expected to be the largest such medical facility in the Delta region.
Abdel Ghaffar added that the new hospital will be a significant addition to the medical city that the university is currently implementing.
“This will serve the medical and health sector in the governorate, whilst reducing the burden on other emergency hospitals in Mansoura, Alexandria and Tanta,” he added.
The eight floor facility will be equipped to international standards with the latest medical devices, and will include 250 beds and 87 intensive care beds, alongside 24 operating rooms. It will also include a 74-bed kidney dialysis department, an isolation room, as well as a water treatment unit.
Madbouly also visited the location for the governorate’s social housing project, and directed for the concerned authorities to provide alternative housing for people residing in unplanned areas and slums. He added that the evacuation should not take place until new housing has been built.
