More than 100 Egyptian brands featuring locally manufactured products participated in the LA Market exhibition, last Friday, driven by the desire to promote local industry and particularly modest fashion.
The event, which was held in New Cairo’s Park Mall, gathered Egyptian designers of modest clothing and fashion, in addition to hand-made accessories designers, to help them promote their products and gain exposure.
Lydia Akram Galal, Owner and Founder of LA Market, said, “My cause is to support more Egyptian brands in the modest clothing industry.”
She also said that the invasion of international brands remain a hindrance to local designers from penetrating the market, especially as most these local designers are self-funded.
Galal added that the event will be held several times during the year, especially in the summer and winter seasons, to help many “Made in Egypt” brands gain exposure, and become better known.
“We also we utilise social media and other digital tools to promote the local products,” Galal said, “My hope is to take part in more partnerships that allow us know more local brands in different sectors, not only in modest wear and handmade accessories, to get the exposure from the market.”
With the precautionary measures that were put in place for the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic recently eased, the exhibition attracted around 3,000 visitors. Precautionary measures, such as sanitization and wearing face masks, remained in force at the event.
