Alstom has successfully supplied, tested, and put into commercial service its SIL4 electronic interlocking system solution (SMARTLOCK 400 GP) for the Matai sector in the railway line linking Beni Suef and Assiut. The new system ensures effective performance and safe operation of railway traffic at train speeds up to 160 km/h.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Hussein Rashidy, Head of Signaling System at the Egyptian National Railways (ENR); Shaban Mahmoud, Upper Egypt Zone Manager at ENR; Ashraf Khalifa, Head of Operation Department; Mohamed Magdy, BSA Executive Project Manager at ENR, among other officials.
Matai is the sixth sector of Beni Suef – Assiut line to enter commercial service with Alstom’s interlocking signalling system following the commission of the Mallawi section on 23 July. It is an extended sector of over 18 km and includes two stations; Matai and El-Kofor, 6 level crossing, 36-point motors, and 79 signals. With this new milestone, Alstom is putting into service over 80 km of mainline railways in Egypt all operable in contraflow mode.
