Egypt’s Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly approved, on Thursday, a EGP 725m worth development plan in Siwa Oasis, north-east Egypt.
During his meeting with Irrigation and Water Resources Minister Mohamed Abdel Aty, Madbouly discussed a study by the ministry on maxmising wastewater reuse for agricultural purposes.
The ministry’s plan aims to reclaim 350,000 feddan in the Al-Alamein area in Matrouh governorate.
It also plans to close random wells in Siwa and replace them with deep wells, in addition to maintenance of existing wells.
During the meeting, the minister noted that he had inspected a modern irrigation network in Siwa spanning over 30 feddan. The irrigation network is part of a sustainable water management project funded by the United Nations’ Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).
