European car sales witness 1.1% y-o-y increase during September in EU, EFTA

Sales for Germany’s Volkswagen and France’s Renault increased by 14.1% and 8.1% in September, respectively

Sales of new cars of European origin increased 1.1% year-on-year (y-o-y) in September 2020, indicating the recovery of the automobile sector in some European markets.

The increase saw 1.3 million cars sold across the European Union (EU), the UK, and European Free Trade Association (EFTA) countries.

The data showed that Spain, the UK, and France recorded losses, in contrast to the figures reported in Italy and Germany.

Sales for Germany’s Volkswagen and France’s Renault increased by 14.1% and 8.1% in September, respectively, while the Peugeot Citroen Group reported a 14.1% decrease.
