A source at the Ministry of Youth and Sports has revealed that Minister Ashraf Sobhy will ensure the Al Ahly and Zamalek administration boards are frozen and dissolved if financial irregularities and corruption are proven by the ongoing ministry-assigned inspection committees. Both clubs’ boards will also be referred to the prosecution upon completion of the committees’ work.
The source added that the decision will be activated on all bodies, clubs, and the Egyptian Olympic Committee in cases where financial irregularities are found.
Sobhy has so far refused to announce any details of the inspection committees’ findings relating to both Al Ahly and Zamalek, taking into consideration that both clubs are facing important games in the CAF Champions League semi-final stage.
The Ministry of Youth and Sports has decided to postpone the announcement of any results, to ensure the two teams’ matches are not affected.
The source confirmed that the inspection committees have not yet completed their work, and are continuing to examine all paperwork for Al Ahly and Zamalek. He added that the inspection committees have not issued any statements, and that anything circulating on social media related to this issue is unfounded.
