Egypt’s Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities Assem El Gazzar has reviewed the final touches to the draft planning and building requirements that will control urbanisation in Cairo, Giza, and Alexandria.
The ministerial review took place in the presence of ministry officials and urban planning professors from several Egyptian universities.
El Gazzar directed the Technical Secretariat of the Supreme Council for Planning and Urban Development to present and approve the requirements.
He said that Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Khaled Abdel Ghaffar has directed for regional universities to prepare planning and building requirements for all cities across Egypt that are similar to Cairo, Giza and Alexandria.
El Gazzar said, “We aim to control urbanisation in a way that achieves a quality of life for Egyptian citizen, improves the shape of Egyptian construction, and returns it to the appropriate form, which will benefit all citizens, and is in line with the construction boom that Egypt is experiencing in the current period.”
The minister explained that urbanisation is the container for development, and comes as part of the state’s endeavours to control urbanisation.
“We aim to provide the appropriate environment to accelerate the rates of comprehensive development, and improve the economic situation by identifying suitable activities and uses for each region,” El Gazzar said, “This will achieve the highest benefit of various activities, provide job opportunities, and open new horizons for various investment projects.”
The minister said that the controls on urbanisation will facilitate the movement of people, goods and money.
