Egypt’s Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry arrived in Moscow, on Tuesday, for talks with Russian officials, Egypt’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced.
Shoukry is set to discuss bilateral relations and the coordination between the two countries on regional issues, including the situations in Libya, Syria, Yemen and Lebanon.
The Egyptian Foreign Minister will meet with Russians officials, including Minister of Industry and Trade Denis Manturov, Secretary-General of the Russian National Security Council Nikolai Patrushev, and the National Security Adviser to the Russian president.
The meetings will take place following the announcement that Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has gone into voluntary isolation, after coming into contact with novel coronavirus (COVID-19) cases. Shoukry has expressed good wishes for Lavrov’s speedy recovery.
The two countries are looking to coordinate on the most important regional issues of mutual concern, particularly the Middle East peace efforts, and the situations in Libya, Syria, and Yemen.
They will also discuss the situation in Lebanon, which has called on Egypt to coordinate with influential parties in the Middle East regarding regional stability.
During Shoukry’s visit to Russia, he will also meet with Leonid Slutsky, Chairperson of the Committee on International Affairs of Russia’s Parliament, the Duma. He will also be received by a number of officials from Russia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, headed by Deputy Foreign Minister and the Russian President’s envoy to the Middle East Ambassador Mikhail Bogdanov.
Upon his arrival in Moscow, the Egyptian minister participated in a virtual meeting regarding the Ethiopian dam. The meeting was headed by South Africa’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Naledi Pandor, with the participation of the Foreign and Irrigation Ministers in both Sudan and Ethiopia.
