Motawafer, the Egyptian platform for e-commerce, has become the country’s first online mall, including offers found on all e-commerce platforms in Egypt.

It includes items from Jumia, Amazon, Noon, Carrefour, Raya Shop, B-Tech, Computer Shop, Egypt Lab, and Al Araby among others, as well as distributors and manufacturers of smartphones and electronics.

During a press conference on Monday, Motawafer CEO Wael Abu Al-Ela said that the site is the first of its kind, and represents a real boom in e-commerce activity in Egypt.

Abu El-Ela added that the annual volume of e-commerce in Egypt is close to EGP 20bn, and is growing globally at rates of more than 70%, especially in light of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).

He added that the idea of the new platform came due to the positive steps taken by the Egyptian state to promote digital transformation and financial inclusion. The government aims to transform the country into a cashless society, as the new platform saves customers time and effort in searching for the best offers and features.

The platform was established by Mohamed Okasha, CEO of Disruptech Fund for Investment, and founding partner of Fawry; Wael Fatine, Technical Executive Director of the platform; and Wael Abu El-Ela, former Director of Careem Egypt and North Africa.

Abu El-Ela said that choosing November to announce the start of the platform’s work is due to the start of the back-to-school season. It precedes the offers and discounts of Black and White Fridays, which represent the most prosperous offers of the year in online sales and purchases.

The Egyptian market for the company represents the beginning of the launch to other surrounding markets, most notably Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Kuwait, and Bahrain. The products and the offered markets will also be expanded.
