The 2020 edition of the Ecomondo exhibition, organised by the Italian Exhibitions Group (IEG), was launched on Tuesday as the largest digital event on the green and circular economy circuit.
About 400 companies will participate in the online platform, which is set to take place from 3 to 15 November.
IEG President Lorenzo Cagnoni opened the exhibition by saying, ”2020 is a year that will be remembered for a long time, and at IEG we re-thought our two expos, re-planning them in a wider digital format.”
He added, “The response of approximately 400 companies is very positive, and for this reason we wish to thank the entrepreneurs who accepted to be with us, and take advantage of the opportunities offered by the new digital instruments.”
Gianni Silvestrini, Chairperson of the Key Energy Scientific Committee, said, “Europe has decided to raise its targets on climate changing gas emissions to 55%.”
“We asked Milan Polytechnic what this objective means for Italy, and we found that photovoltaic use, for example, will have to be more than tripled,” Silvestrini said, “We have an extraordinary opportunity for some sectors to be strengthened from an industrial point of view: electric mobility; hydrogen electrolysers; and photovoltaic and off-shore wind power.”
Italy’s Minister for Foreign Affairs Luigi Di Maio added, ”Ecomondo and Key Energy are expos that present technologies in which Italy is a trailblazer, and include systems that are able to greatly multiply in terms of both jobs created and wealth produced.”
Di Maio said, “A total of 432,000 companies have invested in green technology. Those who chose sustainability are more competitive on the foreign markets and green jobs in Italy have exceeded the three million mark. The [Italian] Government is heading in this direction and the Foreign Ministry is committed to boosting international expos like Ecomondo and Key Energy.”
The Ecomondo and Key Energy exhibition was scheduled to take place from 3 to 6 November at the Rimini expo centre, but the Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte issued a decree suspending exhibitions and conferences. The move came as part of the precautionary measures to confront the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, which prompted the IEG to organise events through a digital platform.
