El Sayed Azzouz, Board Member and Vice President for Spectrum Affairs at the National Telecom Regulatory Authority (NTRA) of Egypt, has been elected to the Vice Chairperson position of the International Telecommunication Union’s (ITU) Radio Regulations Board.
Azzouz will take on the role during 2021, provided that he would assume the position of Chairperson of the Radio Regulations Board during 2022.
The committee consists of 12 international experts who are elected at the Plenipotentiary Conference from the ITU’s 193 member states.
The ITU’s Radio Regulations Board is a committee concerned with approving the rules used by the Radiocommunication Bureau in implementing the provisions for Radio Regulations. It also records frequency assignments submitted by the Member States. Additionally, the board deals with issues that cannot be resolved through the application of the Radio Regulations and procedural rules.
The committee also considers investigation reports on cases of uninterrupted interference between states and develops its recommendations. It provides advice to radio communication conferences and assemblies, and considers appeals from member states against the BR decisions regarding frequency assignments.
