A Ministry of Planning and Economic Development delegation has visited Beheira governorate to follow up on the implementation progress of the Rashid Fishing Port.

The visit is one of several that the Ministry is undertaking to determine the executive position of the projects listed in the government plan for fiscal year (FY) 2020/21. During these visits, the participants will discuss overcoming any obstacles facing the implementation of these projects.

Minister of Planning and Economic Development Hala El-Said affirmed that the government’s comprehensive and sustainable development plan aims to achieve balanced growth between various regions and governorates of the country, whether in terms of income level, employment opportunities, or access to education, health services, and facilities.

According to the Ministry, the implementation rate at Rashid Fishing Port reached 78%, which is part of the Rashid development project.

The project is located on the Rashid branch of the River Nile. The Arab Contractors Company was awarded the establishment contract of the project, which falls under the Ministry of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities. The project is supervised by the Beheira Governorate.

The estimated value of the project stands at EGP 410m, which will go towards the construction of the fishing port, the development of the walkway, and the marina area. The area of the project is approximately 48,000 sqm in total, of which the port is 800 metres in length and about 60 metres in width.

The investments approved for the project under the FY 2020/21 plan reached EGP 40m.

The economic viability and social return of the project are represented in providing job opportunities for Egyptian youth. It is set to provide about 5,000 job opportunities, in addition to preserving fish wealth, creating a codified fishing system, and eliminating overfishing operations. The project also looks to develop material returns if the facilities are used after the completion of their implementation, as well as achieving human development in the region.

The work at the port will see an administrative building and warehouses constructed, alongside a workshop and painting building. A power station building, sales facilities (wholesale – sectoral – retail), a cold store, an ice factory, a window factory, and administration and customs building, and two water tanks will also be constructed, among other buildings.
