Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Mohamed Abdel Aaty held a meeting with leaders of the Irrigation Authority, to follow up on the Ministry’s projects and activities in different governorates.
During the meeting, Abdel Aaty directed for adhering to the timetable of canal rehabilitation projects. He emphasised the great importance of these projects to improve water management and delivering.
These projects help in raising the level of citizens’ livelihood by providing job opportunities. They also contribute to improving the environment and encouraging citizens to preserve waterways and protect them from pollution.
The minister urged for the acceleration of the procedures necessary to shifting from flood irrigation to modern irrigation systems.
Modern irrigation systems will contribute to maximising crop productivity and reducing operating costs through the effective use of labour, energy, and water. This will, in turn, lead to increasing farm profitability.
The use of this modern system will positively affect the process of managing and distributing water in Egypt with a high degree of efficiency.
Abdel Aaty stressed the necessity of counting and the infringements on canals, reporting the violations and then to remove these violations. Reports on violations will be sent to the military prosecution to take legal measures against violators.
Furthermore, the minister instructed for reviews on the readiness of protection facilities, canals and bridges, all stations and emergency transport units at hotspots to face the rainy season and floods.
