Egypt has climbed 10 spots in the Global Knowledge Index (GKI) 2020, ranking 72nd out of 138 countries in the world.
The Egyptian Cabinet Information and Decision Support Center published an infographic, reviewing the Global Knowledge Index 2020 issued by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Knowledge Foundation.
According to the infographic, Egypt’s ranking improved in all sectoral indices in 2020; climbing 23 spots from the last year in the Technical and Vocational Education, and Training index, ranking 80th. The country also moved up 11 spots in the Pre- University Education index, ranking 83rd.
The GKI is issued annually to measure the knowledge performance of 138 countries around the globe using 199 sub-indices. They include 7 main sectoral indices including, general enabling environment, information& communications technology, higher education, pre university education, economy, research development and innovation, and technical and vocational education and training.
The index, issued in December, pinpointed Egypt’s areas of strength; the number of students enrolled in the globally ranked universities, the percentage of out-of-school children, the percentage of student enrolled in technical vocational education and training, and judicial independence.
Egypt ranked 92nd in the general enabling environment index 2020, up from 99th in 2019. It ranked 74th in the information and communications technology index, up from 78th in 2019.
As for higher education, Egypt moved up 7 spots, reaching 42nd in 2020, compared to 49th in 2019.
Egypt’s ranking improved slightly in the economy during 2020, reaching 66th from 67th in 2019. In the research development and innovation, Egypt ranked 74th in 2020, up from 83rd in 2019.
