Egyptian exports to the Japanese market have surged by 76% during the first five months (5M) of the year, recording $176m compared to $100m during the same period last year, according to Egyptian Minister of Trade and Industry Nevine Gamea.
Gamea added that Egyptian imports from Japan also increased by 18% in 5M 2020, registering $443m compared to $375m during the same period last year.
The minister noted that the most important Egyptian exports to the Japanese market are carpets, garments, home appliances, and dried agricultural products, while the most important imports are cars, home appliances, machinery, plastics, and rubber articles.
During her meeting with Ambassador of Japan to Egypt Masaki Noke, Minister Gamea affirmed the Egyptian government’s keenness to enhance joint cooperation with Japan in various economic sectors, especially in the industrial sector, in order to benefit from the Japanese expertise and advanced technologies in this regard.
She also highlighted the importance of the Japanese participation in the Egyptian government’s startegy to convert vehicles to natural gas operation.
For his part, the Japanese Ambassador expressed his country’s keenness to strengthen bilateral relations with Egypt, being a pivotal country in the Middle East and Africa.
He invited the Egyptian government and business circles to participate in the Expo 2025, which will be held in the Japanese city of Osaka. The event is expected to attract more than 28 million visitors, of whom 3.5 million from outside Japan.
The ambassador noted that the exhibition represents an excellent opportunity to Egyptian businesspeople to meet their counterparts from around the world and to agree on joint investment projects.
