Egypt’s Minister of Trade and Industry Nevine Gamea announced that preparations are underway to organise the first exhibition for replacing and conversion of vehicles to compressed natural gas (CNG) next January, under the patronage of President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi.
Gamea said that the exhibition will be attended by major car companies operating in the Egyptian market and manufacturers of cars that operate on natural gas, as well as agents and importers for dual-fuel cars (petrol – gas), in addition to a number of automotive feeder companies. Besides, the local banking sector will be represented by a large number of banks, in addition to the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise Development Agency (MSMEDA).
The minister said, “During the exhibition, presidential initiative to convert and replace cars will be launched, which aims to improve the lifestyle of Egyptian citizen and support the national industry, as well as, maximizing benefit from new gas discoveries in Egypt.”
Gamea explained that this exhibition aims to raise awareness of economic and environmental benefits of using CNG as car fuel, and awareness of financing programmes available to citizens to facilitate the conversion of cars. In addition, the expo will showcase the new car models which were converted to work with natural gas.
She further added that the exhibition will promote communication between parties involved in the programmes namely government agencies, a business community and consumers, and giving a message to local and foreign auto companies regarding the state’s support for the approach based on enhancing reliance on gas technology in cars used in the local market.
