Egypt’s Minister of Trade and Industry Nevine Gamea has issued a decree halting the import of ceramics and tiles made from porcelain for a period of three months.
The decision will be enforced within 24 hours following its publication in the official Gazzete, Waqaa Masria.
Gamea said that the decree comes as part of measures taken by her ministry to regulate the import of consumer goods.
This includes imports of ceramics and porcelain products, particularly during the current period, which is experiencing significant negative repercussions due to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
The minister further said that the decree aims to protect Egypt’s industrial productivity rates from any potential repercussions resulting from the pandemic.
The decision will be reviewed periodically, according to updates during the next period.
