Egypt’s Ministry of Trade and Industry has commenced coordinating with Jordan and Iraq on activating industrial and commercial integration between the three countries.
In a statement, Minister of Trade and Industry Nevine Gamea said that an Egyptian technical team will be dispatched to Iraq with the participation of the Jordanian Embassy in Baghdad, to review the needs of the Iraqi market.
The minister added that this would review the rehabilitation of Iraqi factories and the investment opportunities available, as well as highlight the needs of the local market for goods and products.
She said that during the visit, the importance of enhancing integration and joint economic, commercial, and investment cooperation between the three countries will be emphasised. This cooperation is set to take place through the implementation of a number of joint projects, especially in the industrial and commercial fields.
Gamea said that a number of sectors targeted for joint cooperation have been identified, including: the pharmaceutical industries; veterinary medicines; chemical industries; petrochemicals; leather; and ceramics.
She also said that a study has been undertaken to hold a permanent exhibition in Baghdad of Egyptian and Jordanian products.
In a recent meeting, the three countries agreed on the importance of facilitating trade movement and lifting restrictions and obstacles that hinder the flow of joint trade between the three countries. This will see preferential treatment granted for products to enter the markets of the three countries.
The meeting also saw a review of developments related to the establishment of an economic city that will be located on the border between Iraq and Jordan. This city is projected to become a focal point for enhancing industrial cooperation between the three countries.
