At the conclusion of its visit to Cairo, the southern Libyan delegation has praised Egypt’s tireless efforts to support and encourage unity in Libya, and restore its sovereignty, security, and stability.
The delegation also praised Egyptian efforts in bringing together the various Libyan parties, particularly in light of the difficult circumstances the latter is experiencing.
In its final statement, issued after its meeting with the Egyptian National Committee concerned with the Libyan file, the Libyan delegation said that views were exchanged on developments in the Libyan situation. Discussions were also held on ways to resolve the crisis by strengthening the country’s ownership of comprehensive settlement efforts.
The delegation indicated that the visit to Cairo came at the invitation of Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi, and within the framework of the country’s genuine Arab role in supporting and caring for its brothers.
The statement also made note of Egypt’s concern for the unity of the Libyan national territory and the former’s sense of the importance of the delicate state in which the Libyan people live.
Egypt has placed constant emphasis on the great responsibility entrusted to the various sects and the Libyan components, the statement added, in an effort to heal the rift. These efforts have also worked to bring together points of view, and unify visions to pull Libya out of its crisis and into security, peace and lasting stability.
The southern Libya delegation emphasised the unity and integrity of country and Libyan ownership of a comprehensive political solution through a comprehensive “Libyan-Libyan” dialogue.
These would take place without interference from any foreign parties, with the delegation categorically rejecting any international arrangements related to the Libyan issue unless it stems from pure Libyan will. The delegation called for an acceleration of work towards achieving a comprehensive political settlement within the framework of consensus and dialogue.
The southern Libyan delegation affirmed its total rejection of all external interventions aimed at undermining the positive developments, and harming the security of the homeland and the citizen. It also rejected any tampering with the capabilities of the Libyans, whilst emphasising their commitment to the political path, their affirmation of the importance of dialogue, and the primacy of the supreme interest of the Libyan people.
The delegation highlighted the urgent need to face security problems relating to controlling borders and combating smuggling operations through them. This also includes illegal immigration, building national security institutions, and strengthening their role in fighting terrorism.
