Good intentions are the only condition to achieve true reconciliation and restore relations between the Arab Quartet (Egypt, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and Bahrian) and Qatar, according to Egypt’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ahmed Hafez.
In this context, he added, in a press conference on Thursday, that Egypt always seeks to preserve the unity of the Arab world and reach reconciliation between disputed parties in a way that restores regional cohesion and allows constructive cooperation while achieving the interests of all parties,
Hafez emphasised that achieving this purpose requires full commitment of all parties to non-interference in internal affairs and confronting threats to the security and stability of Arab countries.
The Arab Quartet has imposed a diplomatic and economic blockade on Qatar since June 2017, accusing the gas-rich state of supporting terrorism and extremism, as well as interfering in their domestic affairs. Qatar has repeatedly denied the charges.
