The total cost of development projects that have been and are currently being implemented in Upper Egypt’s governorates since 2014 to the present date stands at EGP 63bn.
The figure covers projects implemented by the Ministry of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities in the time period since President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi took office in 2014 to the present date.
Commenting on the figure, Assem El Gazzar, Minister of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities, said, “Since President Al-Sisi took over the presidency, the state has paid great attention to the development of the Upper Egypt governorates, in line with Egypt’s Vision 2030, through the establishment of new cities.”
He added, “In addition to this, land and housing units of various types have been provided to meet the demands of all segments of society, along with providing investment opportunities and various job opportunities, implementing drinking water and sanitation projects, and developing informal areas.”
The minister said that total investments in Upper Egypt have been distributed as follows: EGP 13.2bn to the housing sector to construct 130,892 housing units; EGP 389m allocated to developing 94 informal areas with 36,869 housing units; and EGP 11.3bn for the road sector, to develop 931 km of national and main roads other than internal roads networks in new cities.
He added that other allocations include EGP 34.5bn for utilities sector to implement 271 projects to connect drinking water and sanitation services, and 1,654 projects to replace and renew existing networks and stations. This comes along with EGP 3.6bn allocated for the services sector, for the construction of 412 service buildings.
