Egypt’s Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, represented by the tourism activities sector and internal offices, announced that 180 bazaars across Egypt, particularly in the Red Sea area, acquired tourism business licences in 2020.
The tourism activities sector and internal offices ensure that bazaars selling tourism products obtain a licence from the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities. The offices also follow up on their work and ensure the quality of services and products provided to tourists.
Samia Sami, head of the tourism activities sector and interior offices, said that these bazaars obtained licences after they adjusted the standards of the services they provide.
She said that the number of bazaars that obtained the required licences is good compared to previous years, especially in light of the repercussions from novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
Notably, the Ministry has carried out a number of awareness campaigns for bazaars nationwide on the tourism licence’s importance and its advantages. The campaigns have also sought to familiarise the bazaars with the facilities provided by the ministry to obtain the licence.
The Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities has also simplified these procedures and ensured that the application to obtain a tourism business licence is easier.
Bazaars will also now be able to swiftly complete all papers through the ministry’s tourist offices, provided that obtaining the licence is only from the Ministry’s Office in Cairo.
In a press statement, the Ministry assured that it continues to send committees to monitor tourist bazaars according to an approved plan, to ensure that they engage in proper tourism activities. This work is also carried out to monitor violations and legalise their status, with the committees inspecting 50 bazaars in Cairo and Giza during the last period.
