The medical committee for the 2021 World Men’s Handball Championship has announced that 1,654 PCR tests were carried out on participants in the tournament during the past 24 hours.
The tests, which are used to diagnose for the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), were conducted on all teams participating in the championship, federation members and organising committees, as well as hotel workers and medical teams.
Meanwhile, Egypt’s Ministry of Health and Population announced, on Sunday, that 234 participants at the championship have received medical care during their participation in the event in Cairo. The ministry added that all of them are in good health.
This comes as part of the medical insurance plan for the World Handball Championship, which Egypt is hosting from 13 to 31 January. The plan aims to monitor the health of visitors who are participating in the tournament, and to tighten preventive and precautionary measures against the pandemic.
Moreover, seven participants have also received first aid for varied injuries such as bruises and muscle strains. A total of 21 equipped ambulances with 28 medical teams are serving at all sports halls that are hosting matches.
Hossam Hosni, head of the national committee to combat COVID-19, visited the residencies of championship participants, on Saturday, to review the diagnosing protocols and the mechanism for isolating suspected cases.
