Egypt’s House of Representatives will resume its plenary session, on Sunday, as it undertakes further hearings of Ministers in the government of Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly to defend government performance for the third consecutive week.
There will be three sessions this week, the first of which will take place on Sunday when Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr Talaat delivers a statement. During this appearance, Talaat will outline his ministry’s position regarding the implementation of the government programme. He will be followed by Minister of Planning and Economic Development Hala El-Said who will attend the Monday session.
During the past two weeks, most government ministers have delivered public statements before the plenary session to defend government performance, with dozens of representatives commenting on the statement of each minister.
These statements follow the decision of the House of Representatives’ General Committee, which is looking to review all aspects of the government “Egypt Starts 2018/2022” programme that have been implemented.
This week’s sessions are the last devoted to ministerial statements, according to the timetable of public sessions. The plenary sessions last week heard statements from 10 ministers on their ministry’s respective position regarding the implementation of the government programme.
The House of Representatives will discuss the report put forward by the quality committees in Tuesday’s plenary session. The agenda includes reviewing the report of the joint committee from the Defense and National Security Committee and the Office of the Plan and Budget Committee. This covers a draft law submitted by the government to amend some provisions of the Traffic Law promulgated by Law No 66 of 1973.
The Committees of Social Solidarity, Family, and Persons with Disabilities at the House of Representatives will hold two meetings on Sunday and Tuesday. These will complete the review of discussions on the statement made by Minister of International Cooperation Rania Al-Mashat, which took place on 20 January.
The committee will hold a meeting next Tuesday, in order to discuss the statement made by Minister of Social Solidarity Nevine El-Kabbaj. The minister’s statement was presented to the Council at its session held on 1 February, to follow up on the ministry’s work and to review the clarifications made by the ministry regarding her efforts.
