Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shoukry received his Lebanese counterpart Charbel Wahba, on Sunday, to discuss overall bilateral relations and ways to resolve the current stalemate in Lebanon.
Ahmed Hafez, Spokesperson for Egypt’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said Shoukry expressed Egypt’s full support for Lebanon in resolving the current stalemate, which is hindering the country’s ability to form a new government.
The minister emphasised the international community’s support in a manner that is consistent with constitutional foundations. This aims to help Lebanon avoid falling under the influence of regional or internal powers that only seek to elevate their narrow agendas, without paying attention to the interests of the Lebanese people and safeguarding their national capabilities.
This is particularly given the current economic crisis in Lebanon, which requires an immediate implementation of economic reforms after the new government’s formation.
For his part, Wahba presented his vision of the current situation in Lebanon, expressing his country’s great appreciation for the Egyptian role in political and economic support. He highlighted that the Egyptian efforts have been to support Lebanon as it moves forward out of the current situation.
Wahba also stressed his aspiration to continue the pace of coordination and consultation with Egypt.
