The Egyptian Embassy in Canada, in cooperation with the Cultural and Educational Office in Montreal, has organised a celebration and special symposium, entitled “Here Cairo: The Egyptian Radio Continues Across Time and Space”.
The virtually held symposium took place to mark World Radio Day, and was attended by a distinguished array of Egyptian radio stars. These included Abla Fadela, who pleased the audience with memories of “Ghinwa and Hadouta”, as well as Egyptian Radio head Professor Mohamed Nawar who gave an integrated presentation on the history of Egyptian radio.
In his speech, Egypt’s Ambassador to Canada Ahmed Abu Zeid expressed his great happiness to participate in organising the initiative with the Egyptian Cultural Office in Montreal.
He noted that the symposium aims to shed light on the cultural, national, and enlightening role of Egyptian radio over the ages.
Abu Zeid added that the symposium provided a unique opportunity to exchange visions and ideas with veterans and community figures, and to hear their memories of Egyptian radio before immigrating to Canada.
It also allowed participants to learn about some of the experiences of community members who are specialists in the field of media, in establishing Egyptian radio channels in Canada.
