The Al-Ghad Theater concluded, on Sunday night, the performance of their latest theatrical work Paradise Here, which took place at the Malak Opera Theater.
The performance took place in the presence of Minister of Culture Inas Abdel Dayem and Chairperson of the National Council for Women (NCW) Maya Morsy.
During the ceremony, Abdel Dayem asserted that the theatrical art is an effective way to present contemporary challenges and their solutions. This is particularly relevant given that Paradise Here aims at addressing the problems women face in society.
The minister said that the show had succeeded in addressing a number of social issues related to women, shedding light on different life experiences in order to develop collective awareness.
She directed the extension of the play’s performances, and to repeat the show in Egypt’s different governorates starting with Port Said, Kafr El-Sheikh, and Damanhour. She asserted that her ministry’s plan to produce performances at different theatres across the country aims at raising awareness, and addressing all segments of society especially youth.
Moreover, Morsy praised the show’s idea, as it discussed many contemporary women’s issues that are monitored by the NCW.
The play Paradise Here deals with many issues facing the modern Egyptian family, including the absence of a father, and the status of women in society. It also touched upon female circumcision (FGM), harassment, delayed childbearing age, and spinsterhood.
