Negotiations are underway to add the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization (NMEC) to the list of sites that can be visited using the Cairo Pass.
The talks took place during a meeting of the NMEC’s Board of Directors, headed by Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Khaled El-Anani, held at the museum’s headquarters in Fustat.
The meeting discussed several issues regarding the progress of work at the museum, along with the possibility of adding it to the list of sites on the Cairo Pass.
Its inclusion on the pass would allow holders to visit a number of museums and archaeological sites in the Cairo and Giza governorates for five consecutive days.
A brief on the developments of the museum’s website was also presented during the meeting, with the company involved in this part of the work presenting its design. It included an overview of the various pages, and the electronic services it will provide to introduce all the museum’s activities.
During the meeting, the Board agreed to implement a system where visitors can move around the exhibits at the museum, and enjoy a tour guide experience by listening to further information on the artefacts through headphones.
The system is in use at other major museums under the Supreme Council of Antiquities, and will be put into effect provided that the ticket price is EGP 30.
It is hoped it will allow visitors to both enjoy guided tours through the headsets, and do so in a calm environment. It will also ensure that the voices of tour guides do not overlap each other.
The Board agreed that the museum should adhere to the photography regulations for museums and sites approved by the Supreme Council of Antiquities.
