The Egyptian Cabinet’s Media Center has denied reports that residents of the Cairo district of Ezbet Al Hagana have been displaced from their homes on the pretext of developing the area.
In a statement on Wednesday, the Media Center said that it had contacted the administrative authority of Cairo governorate, which denied the news and confirmed there is no intention to displace the residents.
The governorate affirmed that the district is currently undergoing “a comprehensive development process to raise the efficiency of all basic services and infrastructure in the region, while providing all means of a decent life for citizens living in the area.”
The statement added that the area will be linked to the new road network in the surrounding areas. The Cairo Governorate appealed to all media outlets and users of social network users to verify their information before publishing.
Early this month, President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi undertook an inspection tour to follow up on the implementation of the Ezbet Al Hagana district’s development.
The area is located in the 4.5 km area of the Suez Road by the National Roads Company, and makes use of areas under the El-Geish Bridge. The redevelopments are being put in place to lift the burden from 3 million residents in the area.
The redevelopment plan will see parking lots, public transportation, various shops and recreational and sports areas, established to serve the region’s youth. This is in addition to military, civil, and traffic police checkpoints.
