Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi ratified, on Wednesday, an agreement granting a commitment to finance, design, construct, maintain, and re-own the Dry Port in 6th of October city through a partnership system with the private sector. The presidential ratification was published in the Official Gazette.
This ratification follows the Egyptian Parliament’s approval on 15 December 2020.
Egypt’s first-ever dry port in 6th of October city is set to be the biggest of its kind in the entire African region.
Based upon the public-private partnership system between Egypt’s General Authority for Land and Dry Ports and the winning consortium, the port is expected to end the accumulation of goods and containers at the Alexandria and Dekheila ports.
The project also aims at improving the services provided by both ports through increasing its absorptive capacity and diminishing the waiting times for ships outside those ports, which will contribute to reducing the cost of goods.
