Egypt’s National Telecom Regulatory Authority (NTRA) has issued regulatory instructions to mobile companies operating in the Egyptian market that they must notify users of deductions or discounts on top-ups.

The notifications will appear when customers charge their balance, whether by prepaid top-up cards or by any other means. This includes items such as tax, or in exchange for entertainment services and the like, with users to be immediately notified via a text message.

This step comes as part of a series of decisions taken by the NTRA aimed at preserving the rights of telecommunications services users.

The move follows on from a series of regulatory decisions taken by the Authority in the recent months that aim to regulate the market. It also aims to give customers the tools that allow them to obtain their rights from mobile operators.

This includes assigning a unified number to unsubscribe services from mobile companies, regardless of the customer’s affiliate.

The NTRA also issued regulations for the process of transferring customers with the same number from one mobile company to another, which contributed to facilitating the transfer of customers between mobile companies with their numbers.
