Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shoukry has said that there is a political will in Egypt and Hungary to strengthen relations between the two countries.
He also said that Egypt is also looking to develop relations in all fields with the Visegrád Group during the coming period. At the same time Cairo will work to intensify cooperation and coordination with the four countries, namely Hungary, Poland, the Czech Republic, and Slovakia.
The minister’s comments came during a press conference with his Hungarian counterpart Peter Szijjarto.
Shoukry added that Egypt is looking forward to continued cooperation and coordination with Hungary and Europe, and also to strengthen technical consultations in all fields.
The minister pointed out that two agreements were signed, one for the development field and the other for the Egyptian agricultural museum.
He said the talks between the two sides dealt with bilateral relations, which have seen a major breakthrough in recent period. The year 2021 will see celebrations to mark the 92nd anniversary of diplomatic relations being established between Egypt and Hungry.
For his part, Szijjarto expressed his appreciation of Egypt’s role in preventing illegal immigration to Europe, adding that Egypt closed its shores six years ago put a halt to it.
He stressed Egypt’s success in preventing this phenomenon, and highlighted that Egypt deserves full support from the European Union (EU). This should be through financial support and the removal of all obstacles to help Egypt.
The two ministers signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for cooperation between the two foreign ministries, focusing on international development cooperation.
They also signed a letter of intent for cooperation between the Egyptian Agricultural Museum and the Hungarian Agricultural Museum and Library, as part of strengthening relations between Egypt and Hungary.
