The Media Center for the Egyptian Cabinet has denied reports about changing the academic grading scale for the high school leaving exam (Thanaweyya Amma) for 2020-2021, as students will be allowed to repeat exams up to three times to improve their grades.
The Ministry of Education and Technical Education asserted, in the Media Center’s statement, that the highest total result of all grades in the Thanaweyya Amma exams will remain 410 similar to previous years.
The Ministry explained that allowing students to repeat exams more than once has nothing to do with the grading system, as the ministry will take the students’ highest score as the final result.
Earlier, the Education Minister noted that the exams will measure the student’s knowledge and understanding of subjects. The ministry will also hold trial exams for the high school students (Grade 12) after the mid-year vacation in order to train them on the new examination system.
The new high school final exams will no longer be unified, and will be taken and evaluated electronically, without any human intervention. The exams will comprise of multiple-choice questions and results will be announced immediately.
