Hadeer Shalaby, General Manager of Talabat in Egypt, has revealed the company achieved 80% growth over the past year due to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
The lockdown and the precautionary measures in place have contributed to the growth of online sales and food ordering through the application.
During a press conference on Tuesday, Shalaby added that the growth of digital services in the Egyptian market has contributed to the launch of Talabat for supermarket service “Talabat Mart”.
The new feature allows users to order groceries and other supermarket products through the application.
Ahmed Youssry, General Manager of Talabat Mart, said that the service is available in seven countries across the Middle East.
The service depends on what is known as the Dark Store, which is a branch of grocery products in which all products are provided to customers in less than 30 minutes.
He added that there are currently more than 20 Talabat Mart branches covering about 85% of Greater Cairo. The company plans to cover 100% of Greater Cairo, and expand to four other governorates during the current year.
