Egypt’s Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Khaled El-Anani has met with Ana Milena Muñoz de Gaviria, Ambassador of Colombia in Cairo, to discuss strengthening cooperation between the two countries in tourism and archaeology.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed bilateral cooperation in tourism, including organising promotional programmes for tourist destinations in the two countries.

This would also see the creation of familiarisation trips, or “Fam Trips”, for representatives of the media, bloggers, and influencers.

It was also agreed to organise meetings between major tour operators and travel agencies in Colombia, as well as officials at the ministry and the Egyptian Tourism Federation (ETF).

This will ensure that tourism trips to Egypt will commence, in addition to strengthening cooperation between the ETF and its counterparts in Colombia.

They also agreed to air the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities’ promotional films on Colombian television stations, to promote Egypt as a tourist destination.

The ambassador expressed her country’s desire to benefit from Egyptian expertise in the field of tourism, as well as from Egyptian expertise in the field of repatriation of antiquities.

This would take place in addition to bilateral efforts in the field of cultural and archaeological heritage preservation, and combating the illegal trade of antiquities.
