Egypt, Jordan discuss preparations for upcoming trilateral summit

Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shoukry has met with his  Jordanian counterpart Ayman Safadi to discuss ongoing preparations for the upcoming trilateral summit between Egypt, Jordan, and Iraq.

The summit will be held as part of the cooperation mechanism between the three countries.

Ahmed Hafez, Spokesperson for Egypt’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said that the two ministers exchanged views on regional issues, notably the Palestinian issue.

They agreed on the need to build on the outcomes of the last four-way meeting held in Paris on 11 March, which took place with the participation of Egypt, Jordan, France and Germany.

The ministers stressed the need to create a favourable climate for a direct negotiation process between the Palestinian and Israeli sides, on the basis of a two-state solution.

Shoukry and Safadi also discussed developments in Libya, as well as the situation in Syria, and the latest developments in theGreat Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) file.
