Egypt announced, on Sunday, that the Egyptian Network for High Energy Physics at the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology (ASRT) has jumped 257 ranks on the Scimago global classification.
Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Khaled Abdel Ghaffar said that the ASRT took the rank of 495 in the 2021 Scimago academic classification, significantly up on its 2020 ranking of 752.
He added that, whilst Cairo University is the second best university in Egypt behind the ARST, it came in at 527 on the Scimago classification. Meanwhile, the National Research Center ranked third in Egypt and 629 on the global Scimago classification.
The National Research Center took second place in Africa, whilst the ASRT ranked in fifth, according to the classification of governmental institutions in Africa, whilst Cairo University ranked in third in Africa and in 11th in the Middle East.
According to the classification of government institutions in the Middle East, the National Research Center came in second place, whilst the ASRT ranked in fifth.
According to the classification of government institutions on the scientific research index, the ASRT ranked 353 globally, followed by the National Research Center, which was ranked in 359.
Abdel Ghaffar said that 48 Egyptian academic institutions entered the Scimago index classification in 2021, with their ranking ranging between 495 and 864 globally.
The Scimago classification is concerned with arranging universities and research centres according to a composite index that combines three different indicators. These indicators are based on research performance, innovation outputs, and societal impact.
