Egypt condemned, in a statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Thursday, the latest terrorist attack on Saudi Arabia’s southern Jazan region by Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi militias.
It also reiterated its complete rejection of the continued terrorist hostilities, which represent a flagrant violation of the rules of international and humanitarian law and pose a direct threat to regional security and stability.
This comes despite Saudi Arabia’s persistent and sincere efforts to reach a comprehensive political solution to the protracted Yemen crisis, the statement said.
Egypt also reiterated its firm position on supporting Saudi Arabia and the measures it takes to maintain its security and stability.
On Wednesday, the Arab coalition destroyed five ballistic missiles and four explosive-laden drones launched by the Houthis toward Saudi Arabia.
The attacks targeting Jazan are the latest in a long line of hostile actions against the kingdom by the Iran-backed Houthi militia. Egypt has repeatedly expressed its full support for the Saudi-led coalition against the Houthi rebels in Yemen, saying the Iran-backed movement’s practices further inflame the situation in Yemen.
Saudi forces intercepted several attacks launched by the Houthis toward civilian targets in the kingdom, the official Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported on Thursday.
The six-year-old conflict in Yemen started after the 2014 takeover of the capital, Sanaa, by the Houthis. This led the Saudi-led coalition to intervene in 2015, in an attempt to restore the internationally recognised Yemeni government.
