Egypt’s Minister of Health and Population Hala Zayed revealed, on Monday, that its community communication teams have reached over 250,000 people living in seven governorates.
The teams were deployed in the seven governorates during the Eid Al-Fitr holiday to provide health awareness to citizens on the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
Zayed noted that the teams provided the services to residents in Cairo, Fayoum, Damietta, Kafr El-Sheikh, Giza, and Port Said.
The step comes as part of the ministry’s efforts to spread health awareness among citizens by following precautionary and preventive measures against the virus. These came in conjunction with Eid Al-Fitr holidays, in order to reduce the rate of infections during the holiday period.
The Ministry of Health and Population pointed out that these governorates are the most likely to witness family gatherings on holidays and religious occasions.
To ensure awareness, services were provided at public markets, cafes, train stations, public transportation, places of worship, shops, and gathering places. The teams also passed through villages, working in coordination with mayors and sheikhs to educate citizens.
The community communication teams are ensuring citizens and tourists learn the importance of adhering to preventive and precautionary measures against the coronavirus. These measures include: wearing a mask; washing hands frequently; maintaining social distancing; being in well-ventilated places; and going immediately to the hospital if any symptoms appear.
Moreover, the teams have cooperated with the “100 million health” presidential initiative in providing medical services to citizens. This particularly focuses on the initiative for the treatment of chronic diseases and the early detection of renal impairment.
