Egypt’s Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly has said that the country aims to vaccinate thousands of citizens daily against the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) through the expansion of establishing vaccination centers, as part of the state’s plan to address the pandemic.
During a press conference on Thursday evening, Madbouly added that all types of COVID-19 vaccines which were approved by the Egyptian Drug Authority are proven safe globally.
Egypt received more than 2.2 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines last week, with more than 6 million doses coming next June.
He continued, “All scientific studies confirmed that approved vaccines reduce the incidence of the disease, and even if the infection occurs, they reduce the severity of the disease.”
Madbouly inspected, on Thursday, a COVID-19 vaccination center in the Egypt International Exhibitions Center, Nasr City, accompanied by Hala Zayed, Minister of Health and Population; and Jeremy Hopkins, the resident representative of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).
Madbouly called on the Egyptian citizens to speed up registration to receive the vaccine, in order to avoid further spread of the virus.
Minister Zayed said the vaccination centre’s capacity reaches about 10,000 citizens per day, as the place includes 96 vaccination clinics, a waiting area that can accommodate 500 citizens, and a parking slot. The centre’s working hours are from 9:00 to 21:00 daily, except Friday.
The minister added that 600 personnel, including medical teams, nursing, data entry operators, and technical support, work in the centre, in addition to community communication and customer service teams to help citizens and organise the process.
