The seventh edition of the UNESCO-Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum Prize for Outstanding Practice and Performance in Enhancing the Effectiveness of Teachers has opened the window for nominations.
This year’s award, which covers 2021-2022, will be given for innovative practices that contribute to the advancement of teaching and learning around the world. Priority will be given to developing countries, as well as marginalised and disadvantaged communities.
The award opens every two years, and targets educational or research institutions and organisations active in the field of education.
The award is a $270,000 grant, which will be distributed equally between three winners who submitted projects aimed at improving teachers’ performance and effectiveness at the global level. Each country has the right to nominate five candidates, with educational institutions able to apply for the award until 31 October 2021.
In order to apply, educational institutions must apply a project which has made significant contributions to the principles of promoting teaching and learning, in line with the UNESCO objectives.
The project, which must be under implementation, must be exemplary and have proven its effectiveness in mobilising new intellectual and material resources.
The nominations will be approved by national committees, with a maximum of five nominations for each country. Applicants must provide the Egyptian National Commission for UNESCO with a summary of the project submitted for the award, in addition to a copy of the award application form after completing it. All required papers should be sent to the commission via email before 7 October 2021.
It is worth noting that the award was established in 2008 to support and improve the quality of teaching and learning, in order to achieve the fourth goal of the UN’s sustainable development goals (SDGs).
