Cairo’s Taliaa Theatre will celebrate its 60th anniversary in 2022, with a year filled with events to mark the celebration.
“From 1 January until the end of the year, we will have 365 days of celebrations, remembering all the successful plays produced by Taliaa,” the theatre’s director Adel Hassaan said.
He added, “We will produce four repertoire plays, in addition to some new plays, by veteran directors such as Nasser Abdel-Moneim, Essam El-Sayed, and Ahmed Mokhtar”.
The Taliaa Theatre recently opened its door for participation in the Taliaa Theatre Club, with Hassaan saying, “We will organise some events and the club members will be able to attend them, such as a weekly meeting, every Tuesday, with Taliaa’s pioneers, including Samir El-Asfory, Ahmed Kamal, Safaa El-Tokhy, and many others.”
The Taliaa Theatre Club project aims to spread the culture of theatre, discover and develop theatrical talents, and attract interested audiences to practice in theatrical activities within the troupe. These activities include periodic meetings with theatre pioneers and stars, and training programmes implemented by Taliaa Studio.
The theatre continues to receive applications for participation throughout the year, and it is open to, whether the applicant is a professional, an amateur, or a theatre connoisseur.
The Taliaa Theatre was founded by late director Saad Ardash in 1962 under the name ‘Gaib Theatre’, to present experimental and avant-garde plays.
