Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi directed, on Tuesday, for the continued strengthening of cooperation with the international community to support the sustainable development and financing sectors.
The President asserted Egypt’s commitment to the controls and standards for obtaining development financing packages with preferential terms at low costs, and the optimal use of these financing packages.
This included their management to maximise the benefits of localising industry, invest in human capital, and encourage projects that address the environment and climate change.
Al-Sisi’s remarks came during his meeting with Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly and Minister of International Cooperation Rania Al-Mashat.
Presidency Spokesperson Bassam Rady said that Al-Sisi followed up on the Ministry of International Cooperation’s efforts in boosting relations with international partners and development institutions.
Moreover, Minister Al-Mashat reviewed her ministry’s work with international finance institutions to secure loans and financing packages.
She also represented Egypt in the recent negotiations with the European Union (EU) for the 2021-2027 programme, in order to achieve Egypt’s Vision 2030.
The meeting also tackled the Ministry of International Cooperation’s efforts, in coordination with state agencies, to support the “Decent Life” initiative, which aims to develop the Egyptian countryside.
The initiative will also invest in human capital to provide economic and social empowerment to citizens, and support rural communities. It also looks to benefit from the competitive advantages, handicrafts, and economics of Egypt’s governorates.
Minister Al-Mashat also said that her ministry is currently coordinating with the UN and various national authorities to achieve comprehensive economic development, and social protection packages and programmes. This aims to promote women’s empowerment, and comes in conjunction with projects to preserve the environment, and encourage innovation and entrepreneurship.
She added that the Ministry of International Cooperation is preparing to organise the first session of the “Egypt Forum for International Development Cooperation”.
This will take place with the participation of all relevant international and national bodies, including policy makers, economists, development partners, the private sector, civil society, and research institutions.
The forum aims to consolidate Egypt’s active role by sharing the country’s expertise and successful experiences in sustainable development, whilst discussing the most important international development issues.
It will also discuss the requirements for comprehensive development, and shed light on cooperation mechanisms, and international bilateral and multilateral partnerships.
