Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shoukry has arrived in the German capital, Berlin, to participate in the Berlin II Conference on Libya.
Shoukry’s participation in the event comes at the invitation of the German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas and Secretary-General of the United Nations )UN) Antonio Guterres.
Ahmed Hafez, Spokesperson for Egypt’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said that Shoukry will affirm Egypt’s firm position on the need to protect Libya’s sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity.
Shoukry will also affirm Egypt’s support for the aspirations of the Libyan people to build a better future. This is in addition to support for efforts aimed at moving the comprehensive political process forward, led by the Libyans.
This is aimed at ending the conflict and achieving the withdrawal of all foreign forces and mercenaries and the disarmament of armed groups.
During the conference, Shoukry is set to stress the importance of concerted efforts to hold Libya’s general elections on their scheduled date on 24 December, in a manner that achieves the country’s security and stability.
