Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shoukry received, on Tuesday, Kazakhstani diplomat Kairat Sarybay, Executive Director of the Secretariat at the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA).
Ahmed Hafez, Spokesperson for Egypt’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said that Shoukry expressed appreciation for Kazakhstan’s role in establishing and strengthening CICA’s role.
He pointed out Egypt’s interest in developing aspects of joint cooperation with CICA, especially in the areas of combating terrorism, transnational organised crime, and arms control.
Hafez noted that Egypt is looking forward to working with the current Executive Director to achieve these goals.
For his part, Sarybay stressed the importance of continuing cooperation between Egypt and CICA, and his aspiration to enhance Egypt’s involvement, as the only African member of the conference, in its mechanisms during the coming period.
Sarybay invited Shoukry to participate in the Sixth Meeting of Foreign Ministers of the Conference, which will be held in October 2021. He also emphasised the long and solid historical relations between his country and Egypt.
Shoukry welcomed the participation of Nursultan Nazarbayev, former president of Kazakhstan, in the meeting of foreign ministers of the Conference.
The minister also welcomed the bilateral meetings that have been held with the aim of advancing cooperation between Egypt and Kazakhstan and building on the outcomes of the President’s successful visit to Kazakhstan in 2016.
